Three Drones, One Truck

A delivery truck can carry many parcels, but visiting every address may force it through a long sequence of local detours. Small drones create another option: the truck remains the mobile base while drones serve selected nearby stops and return to meet it.

The same dense delivery district is served twice. First, one truck follows a reasonably planned all-road route and returns to the hub. Next, the truck carries three drones, and selected parcels leave and rejoin the vehicle along a coordinated route. The comparison focuses on total completion time, not simply the truck's mileage. Drone sorties only help if their launch points, travel time, carrying limits, and rendezvous fit the truck schedule. A poorly chosen sortie could make the truck wait instead of saving time. The video conveys the key scheduling insight: parallel delivery is valuable when the truck and drones can work at the same time without creating new bottlenecks at their meeting points.
